Sony has been trying to turn Uncharted into a movie ever since the first entry in the franchise. It should tell you something that Uncharted 4 is on the way, and the movie still isn’t shooting. And it just had yet another setback.
According to Heroic Hollywood, Seth Gordon is officially off Uncharted and Sony is going back to the drawing board with the script. To recap, Gordon is the third director, after David O. Russell and Neil Burger, to leave since the project was announced in 2007. This forces us to assume that the project has been cursed, possibly by one of the many, many ancient cultures and civilizations Nathan Drake has robbed.
Joking aside, it’s not hard to see why the movie has struggled for nearly a decade. What makes the games work is the up-close thrilling action you’re involved in, and it’s a little deceptive in that it needs a controller to be fully engaging. “Like playing a movie” doesn’t really lead into “Turning into a movie.”
That said, it’s about a roguish guy stealing stuff, so we’re sure it will get made eventually. Probably a decade from now, but eventually!
