Kesha’s enduring legal battle continues after the New York Supreme Court’s denial of her request for an injunction. Kesha hoped to dissolve her contract with Sony and, more specifically, producer Dr. Luke’s imprint, Kemosabe Records. For now, Kesha cannot otherwise record music or sell merchandise, but Sony’s lawyers have said she can work with a different producer. Kesha decided to appeal the court’s ruling and maintains her claims of abuse and sexual assault against Dr. Luke, who has strenuously defended himself and unequivocally denied the allegations against him.
After the initial court ruling, Kesha received public support from fans and pop stars. After an old deposition video leaked, Kesha’s mother spoke to the press about her daughter’s claims. There were also buzzings that Sony could drop Dr. Luke, but there have been no further developments on that end.
After a few weeks of silence, Kesha published an Instagram photo on Sunday. Within the caption, Kesha claimed she was offered her “freedom” (presumably in the form of a settlement offer) in exchange for making a public apology and retracting her abuse claims:
“so. I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie. I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.”
With these words, Kesha just recommitted to the appeals process.
