Earlier this year Ryan Adams shared a photo of Jenny Lewis at Pax AM — aka his personal studio — that heavily insinuated the two are back to making music together. “Welcome Back, Lewis. We missed that awesome voice at #PaxAm,” he wrote.
Of course, the two have collaborated together on music since her last album The Voyager, but nothing new had officially been announced or addressed so far — this photo was our only hint. Well, this evening Adams shared an Instagram snippet of what he says is a new Jenny Lewis song, furthering earlier suspicions that the two were hard at work.
After covering Taylor Swift’s 1989 in full last year, Adams vowed not to go down that road again following intensive criticism, and instead focused on celebrating the deluxe reissue of his classic album Heartbreaker this year. Lewis also had a busy 2016, working on material with her new supergroup Nice As F*ck, who released their debut self-tilted album this summer.
This new song is warm and has a bit of a doo-wop vibe, with a pulsing backbeat and plenty of acoustic strumming and piano — but Lewis’ voice is front and center, where it belongs. Looks like there’s no slowing down for Lewis heading into 2017.
