Sam Hunt is one of country’s hottest stars at the moment, and he’s been busy teasing fans about his upcoming new record, the follow-up to his critically-acclaimed breakthrough Montevallo. Tonight at the Billboard Music Awards he performed the lead single off that album, the quickly-climbing, sweetly sexy “Body Like A Backroad.” For the event, he began his performance sitting on a stool and playing an acoustic guitar, before quickly ditching that to serenade the crowd from the stage, singing the track directly to the audience and undoubtedly winning over some hearts in the process.
While Montevallo was an album about breakups — specifically about breaking up with his now-fiance — Hunt said that his next record is going to be about falling in love, and committing to his now soon-to-be wife. The loved-up vibes of this single alone indicate that he’s now in a different headspace, and whenever this album finally does officially come out, it’ll be interesting to see just how much Hunt has changed the rest of his sound. Regardless, his new direction only builds on the old Hunt we loved, and his energetic performance was more proof that he’s at ease working on a level that includes greats like Drake — who Hunt loves to cover. Watch the song above and look out for more from Hunt coming soon.
