Graham Norton has perfected the art of assembling just the right group of guests on his show to make things charming and interesting every time. Whether it’s the alcohol, the comfy couch, or the fact that people can be less censored on British telly, Norton manages to always bring out the best in his guests.
This week, Kurt Russell, Tina Fey, and Sia were on The Graham Norton Show, and after Sia was led to the stage (the now ubiquitous wig obscuring her face rendered that necessary) and flirted up a storm with Russell, she talked about what it was like working with Adele on her latest single, “Alive.” While they were writing the power ballad together, Adele gave her a pro tip about live performances and high notes: if you feel like you might not be able to hit the note, that is the best time to call up some audience participation. One can’t help but assume that their writing sessions were pretty legendary. Oh, to be a fly on the wall.
While everyone has off nights, anyone who has watched a live performance of either singer knows that they rarely miss their mark. Still, it’s a good trick to keep in your back pocket for emergencies.
