Birdman has found yet another reason not to pay Lil Wayne. According to TMZ, the rapper and his estranged mentor/label boss were this close to knocking out a settlement on Weezy’s $51 million lawsuit against Birdman when the Cash Money head caught wind of Weezy’s diss of him at Camp Flog Gnaw.
Wayne changed the words to his 2008 hit “I’m Me” to shout-out Jay Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records instead of Cash Money. It didn’t matter that Roc-A-Fella no longer exists — it’s Roc Nation now, guys — Birdman got the message. So, it looks like The Carter V, and the rest of Wayne’s career, will continue to be in limbo.
Wayne’s done himself no favors in his ongoing quest to remove himself from his longtime label. In spite of their decades-long relationship, things have soured to the point that Weezy has regularly trashed his one-time father figure.
“I’m 34 baby, I’m too old for friends,” he said when he was asked about their relationship earlier this year. “His last name isn’t Carter, baby. He’s not family.”
Wayne’s dislike of Birdman was so strong that it led him to end the world’s shortest retirement just to diss him on the song “Grateful.” And since the deal is off — and neither side are exactly known for keeping quiet — we’ll probably be hearing quite a few more beef-related stories in the near future.
