Count Q-Tip in as one of Kanye West’s longtime friends showing support for the Chicago native in the wake of his recent hospitalization and slightly erratic public behavior. Still, Tip says Kanye’s comments about supporting Donald Trump require a sitdown between him and friend.
“It’s difficult because I love him. That’s my brother,” he said in an appearance on Bloomberg Politics. “I reached out to him and I’m hoping that we just get to talk. I just probably will leave it there because I really care about that dude, but his remarks are something that require he and I having a real serious discussion.”
Kanye’s getting the easy way out because we’ve seen Q-Tip give younger artists a full dressing down in public when they have certain ideas that don’t jibe with the culture. But, we also know that the two artists do share a long history as friends and collaborators since ‘Ye’s cited A Tribe Called Quest among his earliest influences and his most recent appearance on a song was for the group’s new album track “The Killing Season.” Let’s hope that Tip and others continue to show Kanye support at the moment, before looking to counsel him on his political views.
