This could not come with enough warnings about being hard to watch. St. Louis left fielder Stephen Piscotty was carted off of the field during Monday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates after he was accidentally kneed in the face by one of his teammates.

Here is the slowed-down version of the incident.

Piscotty was trying to make a play on a ball that Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison hit into the left center gap, as was Cardinals center fielderĀ Peter Bourjos. While Piscotty dove head-first for the ball, Bourjos slid in to make a play on the ball. While Bourjos made the catch, his knee caught Piscotty right in the face, and Piscotty was down on the field for some time. He eventually had to be carted off and transported to a local medical facility.

According to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com, Piscotty suffered a head contusion. He is also being evaluated for further injuries as a result. Piscotty had been one of the Cardinals’ better players this year, as he was called up in July and has thrown together a slash line of .313/.365/.507 with seven home runs.
