The Baseball Writers' Association of America finally ended the pulse-pounding suspense and announced this year's inductees to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Well, inductee. Goose Gossage is the only guy who got in.
Known for his overpowering fastball, fiery temperament and bushy mustache, the Goose received 466 of 543 votes (85.8 percent) from 10-year members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
I like how his facial hair is listed like it's part of his qualifications for the Hall. I wonder what's going to be on his tombstone — Loving father, Hall of Fame pitcher, wearer of totally sweet mustache.
So, congrats to Gossage. Jim Rice narrowly missed election, and next year will be his 15th and final year on the ballot. Does he deserve to get in? Some say yes, some say no, I say, Who cares? Boston fans are going to bitch either way.
