Last week we brought you the very important story of Cee Lo Green — a tiny round alien and judge on “The Voice” — abandoning his “fan favorite feline sidekick” Purrfect the Cat in favor of a pink cockatoo named Lady, which ranks very high on the list of Most Cee Lo Things To Do. Since the announcement, however, some animal activists and bird specialists have expressed concern over this decision for very trivial reasons, like “that bird is an endangered species,” and “cockatoos freak the f-ck out when they’re in captivity.” Pfft. Tree huggers.
[Cockatoo expert] Monica Engrebretson tells us … “Moluccan cockatoos are beautiful, intelligent animals but they are very challenging to care for especially in the long term, and are prone to considerable welfare problems.” She adds, “Many Moluccan cockatoos develop self-destructive behavior including feather plucking and self mutilation not known to occur in the wild.” [TMZ]
Free advice for bird activists: Telling Cee Lo that pink cockatoos are endangered will not help your cause. Cee Lo would ride a unicorn to the set every single day if he could get his hands on one. It’s not that he’s a bad person (really, anyone who pals around with Daryl Hall is A-OK in my book), it’s just … he’s … he’s weird. Like, weird. This will only make him want the bird more. What you should do is focus more on the part about how the cockatoo acts out. Given Cee Lo’s propensity to wear outfits that make him look like a giant neon dodo bird, I imagine the part about feather plucking might be a better way to dissuade him. See below.
