Earlier this week at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, FX CEO John Landgraf revealed that unlike previous installments of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story, which came with a pre-packaged subtitle (Asylum, Freak Show, Hotel), things were going to be kept secret for this season. “There are many more trailers than you’ve actually seen for hypothetical seasons of American Horror Story — different genres, different places,” Landgraf said about the teasers for season six that have been released so far. “One of them is accurate; the others are all misdirects.”
I’m praying the spider one is a misdirect, because nope. What about the new promo, though? It’s called “The Mist,” and it appears to be going for a Stranger Things vibe, if the Upside Down was a wasteland with railroad tracks. (Feel free to make your “The Mist” into Stranger Things into Stephen King into Stephen King’s The Mist connections.) The only “clue” the teaser gives:
Run.
The most common prediction for season six’s theme is “Charles Manson,” but I’m not sure how this monster — which looks like if a spider had a baby with the CGI’d Scorpion King — fits into the Manson Family? (Maybe it’s the Cousin Oliver of the family.) American Horror Story: The People v. This Monster returns to FX on September 14. Until then, everything’s a mystery.
