Since the mass exodus over the summer of Saturday Night Live cast members, it’s been difficult to decide who is my favorite cast member now that Bill Hader has departed. It basically comes down to a competition between Cecily Strong and Kate McKinnon (although, Taran Killam will get a sympathetic nod occasionally, especially while he’s doing his John Boehner impression). After Cecily’s slow start in the “Weekend Update” chair, I began to lean toward McKinnon, but then Strong had an excellent second outing on “Weekend Update,” plus she’s got the porn star sketch. But then, Kate McKinnon killed it as the house mom who has become obsessed with Grand Theft Auto. “I shot a stripper in the boob for sport. Step the eff back, because Momma is a Latina warlord now!”
So, I’m conflicted. The promos for this weekend’s episode featuring Bruce Willis and Katy Perry have me leaning ever so slightly again toward Cecily Strong, if only because she dominated every promo, and salvages increasingly grumpy straight-man Bruce Willis’ showing in them.
