This post contains spoilers from the latest episode of Game of Thrones.
On last Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones, that expected but still thrilling event happened and Jon Snow is once again in the land of the living thanks to Melisandre’s magic (probably). He may be a changed man, but there is air back in those lungs and hopefully he’s back to reclaim the North. Now fans are left with the maddening task of trying to deduce clues about the upcoming events in Westeros based upon episode descriptions and teaser trailers.
One Tumblr user, David J. Peterson, decided to take matters into his own hands and translate Melisandre’s resurrection prayer from its original High Valyrian. The Red Woman’s pleas to R’hllor, the Lord of Light, are as follows:
Zȳhys ōñoso jehikagon Āeksiot epi, se gīs hen sȳndrorro jemagon.
“We ask the Lord to shine his light, and lead a soul out of darkness.”
Zȳhys perzys stepagon Āeksio Ōño jorepi, se morghūltas lȳs qēlītsos sikagon.
“We beg the Lord to share his fire, and light a candle that has gone out.”
Hen sȳndrorro, ōños. Hen ñuqīr, perzys. Hen morghot, glaeson.
“From darkness, light. From ashes, fire. From death, life.”
It’s all pretty straightforward, but eagle-eyed fans will no doubt analyze it in down to the smallest minutiae. Only one more day until we (hopefully) get some more answers, folks!
