Lauren Cohan, better known as Maggie on The Walking Dead, is on a tour of all the late night talk shows to promote her new movie creepy doll movie The Boy. But what most people wanted to talk about was her new haircut, which took the internet by storm back in December. No, it doesn’t change from gold and white to black and blue. It’s not Miley Cyrus outrageous. It just has The Walking Dead fans worried that her character is going to get killed off on the show.
Here’s what Lauren told Jimmy Kimmel about her fate:
“It’s so funny, you know how it is with the show, we keep it top secret. But the fun thing is you’ll either find out … or you won’t find out. Or it was on the show, or it wasn’t on the show. But we will find out one way or the other. My favorite text from my friend when we cut my hair was, ‘The polar ice caps are melting but your hair is at the top of every news feed.’ “
This wouldn’t be the first time a fresh cut has been used to stir up the interwebs. When Jon Snow ‘died’ at the end of Game of Thrones season five, Kit Harington cut off his luscious locks to the gasps of fans around the world. Many television show actors have clauses in their contracts forbidding them from making severe changes to their appearance (y’know, facial tattoos or shaved heads), so it tricked some into believing the Jonpocalypse was real.
Of course, we now know that may not be the case. His haircut was just part of a promotional plan to whip fans into a fervor. And perhaps that’s all Lauren Cohan’s haircut is: a smart move by her people to create excitement for her new movie The Boy and show AMC how popular her character Maggie is with The Walking Dead fans.
Or she’s gonna get torn to shreds and devoured by a horde of zombies when The Walking Dead returns. We’ll find out or we won’t on Feb. 14.
