Rick and Morty Season 3 isn’t due until late 2016, but the Adult Swim show’s Comic-Con panel on Friday hinted at what fans can expect from the next season when it premieres. Creator Dan Harmon, who fans know and love from not only Rick and Morty but his previous cult favorite show Community, promised a “twist that no one will see coming” as well as other surprises. Harmon was joined by co-creator Justin Roiland and writer Ryan Ridley, so there was plenty of insight to go around when it comes to what might be around the river bend when the show kicks off again.
Some things that the panel would confirm about the next season is picking up right where Season 2 left off, which means that viewers will still be left stressing about Rick being in jail and whether or not he will be freed. Unfortunately for those inquiring minds hoping that the creators would spill an accidental spoiler or expound upon what the “twist” might be, everyone on stage kept mum. However, Roiland and Harmon promised that the Season 3 premiere is a “really cool episode” even if there aren’t currently any details to back that up.
One thing the panel revealed that fans might be able to use to narrow down what will happen in Season 3 is the fact that of all the fan theories circulating online about how Rick gets out of jail, none of them are correct. Or even close to the right thing, apparently. Which means that by process of elimination the internet might be able to pinpoint what will happen. Or, everybody could take a chill pill and be surprised by this supposedly incredible twist. The most important things that came out of the discussion though, are that Dan Harmon is a fan of Pokemon Go (he’s only a level 6) and really wants Vin Diesel on the show.
Can you imagine Vin Diesel doing voice over work for Harmon, of all people? Just think of Vin doing voice over work on this show – it doesn’t even matter what character you imagine him as. It’s a beautiful possibility that might never happen, but crazier guest spots have come about before. If there’s one thing that will distract us from whatever the Season 3 twist is, it’s the mere change that Vin will read this and realize that the one thing missing from his career right now is guesting on an episode of Rick and Morty. Let it happen, Hollywood Gods.
