Walking muscle farm Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a busy man. He’s got loads of movies on the go, TV projects, too, and if you can tell us exactly what he’ll be doing at WrestleMania that’d be swell. If there’s work to be done, The Rock will sniff it out (cuz “IF YOU SMELL…”) and that packed schedule now includes a documentary for HBO due out this May.
Variety (the outlet that taught you the word “boffo”) notes that Johnson will be both producing and appearing in a doc about youth prison boot camps. Sporting the impeccable title Rock and a Hard Place, this project was inspired by issues the action hero faced in his own youth and is branded a “passion project” in the press material.
“By the time I was 16, I had been arrested eight or nine times for a variety of things, and can relate to what these kids are going through,” Johnson said.
Rock and a Hard Place places the spotlight on young people participating in the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Boot Camp Program. It’s a six month ordeal for the kids that take it on with drill sergeants pushing the participants to their limit in the name of rehabilitation.
If you’re a dedicated follower of The Rock’s Instagram account (and why wouldn’t you be?), talk of this doc should sound remarkably familiar. That’s because the charming behemoth talked about the project via IG about a year back. As you can tell from the collection of text accompanying the pic below, it’s a subject Johnson takes very seriously.
Fast-forward to today where The Rock’s Instagram account proudly displays a new message about the documentary and its May 2016 airdate.
Fair Warning: Spoilers abound if you’re hunting for additional information on what’s to come, so navigate your search with that in mind.
