If you were having doubts about Timothy Olyphant being a charming devil, check out his numerous appearances on Conan and put your mind at ease. The man is a treasure within the realm of the late night interview, attempting to take something you are contractually obligated to do most of the time and having fun with it. On Monday, Olyphant kicked off his latest appearance by discussing his days of stealing from hotels. It’s an old pastime for many travelers, but Olyphant seemed to be a pro in those lean early days of his career.
Apparently the new-fangled rules you read about the items in hotel rooms don’t affect Olyphant and are merely suggestions. He even takes it a step further by pouncing on items like silverware that come with the expensive room service. The Justified star says he took a bunch back in those days, mostly because ordering $50 worth of room service seemed to indicate that the silverware was included. Better yet, he says the hotels will not attempt to call you on the missing utensils. I kinda believe him because it would be an odd situation to confront someone about stolen goods that aren’t on your typical hotel thief’s list.
Plenty of folks take the clocks, the bibles, the towels, and the pillows — or they did in the days before hotels checking for everything — but not many people will go for the utensils or the oddball items. It’s truly something to respect in the guy unless you work in the hospitality industry. Or worked in the hospitality industry.
