The Denver Nuggets Have A Lion King Cam, And It’s Pretty Damn Awesome

There aren’t many things that are universally loved. One of the few things that everyone loves is The Lion King. Have you ever met someone who hates The Lion King? Of course not, because it’s impossible to hate that movie.

One reason why everyone loves it is because the opening scene is awesome. You know it by heart: “Circle of Life” plays and all of the animals in the Pride Lands come together to watch as Simba is presented to everyone. It’s one of the most famous scenes in the history of film.

The part where Rafiki picks up Simba has kind of taken on a life of its own outside of the movie. After a friend has a baby, you can usually convince them to hold their newborn in a similar fashion just by playing “Circle of Life” in their presence. The Denver Nuggets are apparently cognizant of this, and during Friday night’s game against San Antonio, the team busted out its Lion King cam during a time out. The premise is simple: they play “Circle of Life”, the camera person finds a baby in the crowd, and hopefully, that baby’s parents will go all Rafiki on their kid.

This silly little exercise worked out perfectly, because once the parents realized what was going on, they played along. In a perfect world, a Lion King cam will replace some other jumbotron thing at sporting events for the foreseeable future, because this is delightful.
