Throughout his career, Judd Apatow has shown a willingness to produce almost anything, even Drillbit Taylor, but tends to save his directing energy for projects about and starring his immediate family, as shown in his last film “10 Things My Wife and Kids Do To Piss Me Off.” But now, hot on the heels of his announcement that he’d be producing a Key and Peele project, comes the news that Apatow will be directing a film starring their Comedy Central colleague, Inside Amy Schumer’s Amy Schumer. Wait, does this mean Judd Apatow and Amy Schumer have a secret love child?! MAYBE.
Judd Apatow is casting his latest directorial effort. Comedian Amy Schumer stars as a basket case who tries to rebuild her life, but still to be found are her boyfriend, a best friend/co-worker and a parent. Apatow movies are considered big gets, and sources say he met with actors in Los Angeles throughout November. Schumer and producer Barry Mendel will take additional meetings in New York during Thanksgiving week. [THR]
Unlike most of the mean reviews I read about his work, I actually appreciate how much of himself Judd Apatow puts into his movies. A 40-something dude’s real problems are infinitely more interesting to me than, say, Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy playing buddy cops, even if that dude is rich and boring and white. But of course, that’s just my opinion as a boring white dude. Amy Schumer is a delight, and I just hope Judd Apatow has learned that not every movie starring women needs to have a scene where they shit themselves in order to get guys interested. A dong going in or two wouldn’t hurt, but I say that about everything.
