Back in 2010, director Patrick Jean brought us an incredibly delightful short film entitled, Pixels, which showed us what it might look like if our favorite 8-bit video game villains invaded Earth and attempted to enslave the human race. It didn’t take very long for Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison putz posse to see how much people loved this idea and purchase the rights (along with the equally-wonderful Bad Toys 2) so they could turn it into a live action adventure. According to the Los Angeles Times, the film is on track to open the summer of 2015 with a May 15 release date.
And in case you had any doubts, Sandler will star alongside Kevin James and Happy Madison first-timer Josh Gad, because at this point, they’re just pointing and laughing at all of us.
James plays the U.S. president, who calls on his childhood best friend (Sandler), an ’80s video-game champ turned home theater installer, to lead a team of fellow 8-bit aces and save the planet.
Chris Columbus, who directed the first two “Harry Potter” movies, will helm “Pixels,” which begins shooting next month. Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling wrote the script. (Via the L.A. Times)
Of course he’s an 80s something-something. God forbid we get an Adam Sandler movie that isn’t filled with tired and worn out 80s stereotypes and clichés, because whichever jokes he didn’t make in the beloved Wedding Singer, he certainly beat to death for two grueling hours in the putrid fart cloud that he called That’s My Boy. I, for one, can’t wait to see how many different songs he uses from “Pac-Man Fever.” Hell, “Do the Donkey Kong” will probably sound amazing covered by Smash Mouth, featuring Rob Schneider and introducing the Nick Swardson Fart Box Five.
