'Mortal Kombat' Banned In Australia, Again

By / 03.09.12

You’d think a country full of terrifying creatures would have better things to do than tell people they can’t play a silly fantasy fighting game, but apparently not: the reboot of “Mortal Kombat” was denied a classification by Australia’s board of prudes.

So Warner Brothers figured, since they were releasing it for the PS Vita, what the hell, let’s submit it again. After all, the tinier screen has to lessen the violence, right? Not according to Australian authorities.

Reports Kotaku:

Last year’s Mortal Kombat reboot was never released on console in Australia, because it exceeded the country’s MA15+ rating. Without an adults-only rating Down Under, the game couldn’t be put on shelves.

Access denied.

With the game getting a later release on the PlayStation Vita, though, publishers Warner Bros. figured they’d try their luck and re-submit Mortal Kombat for classification. They didn’t make any changes to the title’s violence, mind you. They just hit the re-submit button.

We always find stories like this amusing because whenever people from other countries make fun of us, we just point out that their country is so ridiculous, it thinks people might be driven to violence by a dude with a laser eye.
