Have you ever been watching The Matrix and thinking they referenced something which seemed really familiar, but you weren’t sure where it was from? Whoa, déjà vu. A group of film fans put together a side-by-side comparison of scenes from The Matrix and what they were referencing.

Even better, most of the clip’s ideas were crowdsourced. Kirby Ferguson, the filmmaker behind cool web video series Everything Is a Remix, asked fans to submit ideas for the Matrix video. The final product was edited together by Rob G. Wilson (based on a script by Cynthia Closkey) as a holdover until the next chapter of the Everything Is a Remix series arrives. [WIRED]

It’s important to note that the Everything is a Remix series isn’t accusing anything of plagiarism, rather it is cataloging the sometimes-obscure influences behind a well-known work. Most of the fight scenes in this video were choreographed by Yuen Woo-ping, who was hired by the Wachowskis to create fight scenes like the other Woo-ping choreographed movies they were paying homage to. You could saying Yuen Woo-ping was really Woo-ping some ass. I totally stole that joke. Wait, no, it was an homage. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
