New Gotham City Impostors Trailer Makes a Convincing Case for Shooting Guys in the Face

So, what’s the deal with that Batman: Arkham City game? Sure, a lot of people seem to think they liked it, but you can’t be a real triple-A game in 2011 unless you’re a bloody first-person shooter. I mean the game didn’t even have multiplayer!

Thankfully Warner Bros. is giving us Gotham City Impostors. Impostors is of course the online multiplayer FPS in which you play as a member of either a band of murderous impostor Jokers, or a band of murderous impostor Batmen. You can also design your guy’s outfit. So yeah, it’s Team Fortress 2, except a bit more violent and Batman-ish.

Warner Bros. recently began console Beta testing of the game. They also released a new trailer. Most of the trailer’s devoted to the murderous Batman gang carefully explaining that not murdering dudes is too expensive, so screw that. Makes sense to me! Check out the trailer after the jump…

So yeah, looks fun enough, but it kind of misses what made the “Arkham” games exceptional by a country mile. The Arkham titles weren’t just good games — they were good games that completely nailed the spirit of the Batman franchise. Gotham City Impostors looks like it may achieve the former, but definitely not the latter. But hey, sometimes just being fun is good enough. The game will hit the PC, XBL and PSN on January 10th.
