Does Climate Change Also Trigger Volcanoes and Earthquakes?

Meet Bill McGuire. He wants to tell you that climate change is going to wreck us even harder than we thought.

McGuire, a professor in geohazards and one of Britain’s leading vulcanologists, has essentially spent the last few years pointing out that as climate change kicks in, it just won’t be brutal weather that kicks humanity in its collective junk, it’ll also be earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis triggered by various results of climate change.

For example, as water shifts around the Earth, the pressure tends to push magma around: this is why November through April, we’ve got a whole bunch of volcanic eruptions in the Northern Hemisphere.

Oh, and as ice and water shift around, they can crack open faults in the Earth’s crust, which means lots of earthquakes and tsunamis.

In other words, science has proven we’re doomed again. Yay?
