After Some Consideration Universal Decides Not To Endorse ‘Jurassic Park 4’, Puts Movie On Hold

What?! Man, I just bought a boat!

Bad news guys — looks like no dinos for us in 2014! If you need a second to console your inner child, I understand.

Rumors have been flying for a while, but yesterday it was confirmed that Jurassic Park 4 is “on hold”, and it sounds like it may stay on hold for a while. Currently there’s no information on when the project will resume and most of the people involved in pre-production have been laid off.

Hit the jump for an official statement from Universal…

“In coordination with filmmakers, Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise.  We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise’s storied history.”

Riiiight, except from where I’m sitting, it seems like Colin Trevorrow might be the problem. Word is Jurassic Park 4’s script is fine, but Universal really wants to spare no expense and make the movie as epic as possible, and well, the only thing Colin Trevorrow has directed to date is an indie sci-fi romantic comedy with a budget of under a million dollars. Maybe Trevorrow isn’t the problem, but I’m just saying — going from mumblecore to a multi-multi-multi-million dollar dino extravaganza is a pretty big leap into the deep end.

Hmmm, maybe it’s not too late to send them my script — Jurassic Park 4: Clever Girl: Romance Amongst the Raptors. It may be more in Trevorrow’s wheelhouse.
