This R2-D2 Pinball Machine Coffee Table Is Possibly The Droid You’re Looking For

If you’re one of those people who laments the lack of a flat space to sit your beer while you’re playing vintage pinball machines… This is probably not what you’re looking for. However, if you want a flat space and simply enjoy pushing buttons and having things go “whirrr!” and “bong!” with flashing lights, look no further.

ALTAR furniture is a company out of Budapest that takes decommissioned pinball machines and gives them new life. In this case, it’s a Star Wars pinball machine from 1991 that’s been gutted and placed inside the frame of a coffee table painted to look like R2-D2.

Most of the original game’s innards have been placed inside the table. The toy Artoo in the back whistles and blorts. The table’s Artoo legs even have wheels to make moving it around easier. There are six different light settings, so you can have it all ablaze or just some ground effects, there’s a tiny slide projector, and things go “ping” when you press the buttons.

If you don’t believe it, see for yourself:

Each table is handcrafted and takes more than 300 hours to make. “The Droid” is ALTAR’s signature piece, and will cost you about $13,000 USD. No idea what shipping from Hungary to the U.S. would be like, but I’m guessing “not cheap.” However, if you have a rich uncle or run some kind of insurance scam where you get yourself run over by a Lexus, the first thing you should do is buy one of these things. For me. Because I deserve it.
