A Fan Made Slick Opening Credits For The ‘Black Widow’ Spinoff Movie We Deserve

If you thought Captain America: The Winter Soldier had an enjoyable bit of a Bond-movie feel to it, this fan-made title sequence for a Black Widow spinoff should really chuff your corgi, or whatever the Brits say. Found by The Mary Sue, this is Christopher Haley’s final project for his After Effects class, and Haley says on his Youtube page the Bond references were deliberate, as “the only way to do Black Widow movie is to make it a spy film; otherwise it’s just an Avengers movie minus most of the Avengers.”

He nailed the Bond style, right down to the choice of “Sour Times” by Portishead as the theme song. He even included a synopsis and lead cast for his version of a Black Widow movie, although he says now he wishes he had included the Winter Soldier.

Cut off one head, two more shall take its place… For this speculative title sequence of a Black Widow film I decided Black Widow’s villain would be… Black Widow. Yelena Belova, to be specific. Belova believes herself to be the superior Black Widow, and in some ways she is right. Swift and ruthless, Belova is the most talented assassin to graduate from the Red Room– and now she is Hydra’s most deadly weapon. At Belova’s side is a super-soldier of her own, Alexi Shostakov– the Red Guardian, who also happens to be Natasha’s former lover. When the new heads of Hydra make a play for the power of the infinity stones it is up to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s top agent to stop them.

Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) — Scarlett Johansson
Yelena Belova (other Black Widow) — Rosamund Pike
Alexi Shostakov (Red Guardian) — Samuli Edelmann
Phil Coulson — Clark Gregg
Melinda May — Ming-Na Wen

Marvel’s Kevin Feige said last year that there had been some development on a standalone Black Widow film; we found out later that Scarlett Johansson had discussed it with them; a treatment was written by Nicole Perlman (Guardians Of The Galaxy); and director Neil Marshall (Game Of Thrones) said he “would love to do a Black Widow movie”. At this point, though, I don’t think we’ll get a Black Widow spin-off — not even the SNL-imagined disaster — considering Black Widow’s not even showing up in the toys based directly on her coolest scenes. But we can still dream…
