Five Games: ‘Splatoon’ And Everything Else You Need To Play This Week

PCs, handhelds, mobile, console, indies, triple A, free-to-play… the gaming scene gets more diverse and difficult to follow by the day. Thankfully, I’m here ever week to guide you through what’s happening with games.

As always, I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…

This Week’s Pinball Game

Portal Pinball (PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 & PS Vita, May 27)

It might not be the new Portal game you were hoping for, but Portal Pinball actually looks like a pretty solid game of digital pinball. Chell, Wheatley and all the important characters are included, and the game board certainly captures the look of the Portal games, so give it a try and see if you can transport yourself to the high scores page.

This Week’s Episodic Adventure Game

Game of Thrones: Episode 4 – Sons of Winter (PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4, May 26)

Warning: The above trailer contains some spoilers for Episodes 1 through 3 of Game of Thrones.

Telltale’s Game of Thrones series returns this week with more intrigue, stabbing and, apparently, a good dose of Daenerys and her dragons. Note: If you’re wanting to play the game on Xbox ,you’ll have to wait just a little bit longer. Game of Thrones: Episode 4 comes out on Wednesday on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

This Week’s Post-Apocalyptic Comedy

60 Seconds! (PC, May 25)

The nuclear warning siren has just gone off, and you have just one minute to frantically collect from your house before jumping into your bomb shelter. 60 Seconds! doesn’t stop there, though. You then have to figure out how to survive using whatever random crap you grabbed. Awkward apocalyptic fun! Here’s the game’s Steam page.

This Week’s Co-op RPG

Magicka 2 (PC, May 21)

The first Magicka was essentially Diablo for people who didn’t take things quite so seriously. Less emphasis on loot and grim and gritty storytelling and more on crazy, magic-spamming co-op action. Magicka 2 should provide even more spells, action and insanity.

Pick of the Week

Splatoon (Wii U, May 29)

Nintendo’s unique attempt to break into the online shooter market arrives this Friday. Cover arenas in vibrant paint, then turn into a squid and swim through that ink! Splatoon may be a new series, but it’s still very Nintendo. Oh, and a heads up: We’ll have a review of Splatoon up before the game’s even released this Wednesday, so look for that.

Not a bad week, particularly if you’re looking to dust off the ol’ Wii U. Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
