Alphanumeric! That Reboot of ‘ReBoot’ Is Going Ahead With 26 New Episodes.

A couple years back, word leaked out that a reboot of ’90s CGI classic ReBoot was in the works, but we’ve heard nothing more about the project since then. Thankfully, we finally have an update.

Billed as the first-ever entirely computer generated TV cartoon, ReBoot blew a lot of little minds back when it debuted in 1994. In the two decades since its debut, ReBoot has remained a cult favorite due to its premise and sharp writing. Basically, ReBoot imagines a world where a bustling little city exists within every computer. When the owner of the computer plays a game, a cube of light engulfs part of the city, and everyone swallowed up had to act as AI and attempt beat “The Player.” If The Player wins the game, everything within the cube is destroyed, but Guardians specifically trained and outfitted to beat The Player protect every computer. In addition to this clever premise, the show was packed with pop culture and video game references, and often turned entire episodes over to extended parodies of everything from The X-Files to The Evil Dead.

The new series, entitled ReBoot: The Guardian Code will debut sometime this year with 26 half-hour episodes. According to ReBoot creators Rainmaker Entertainment, the new series will stick closely to the concepts laid down in the original series, but will be updated to reflect new technology that’s hit the market since the show ended in 2001. Sadly, the new series won’t star Bob, Dot, Enzo and other classic characters. Instead, the show will revolve around four teenage Guardians named Austin, Parker, Grey, and Tamra, who must protect their system from attacks from the internet.

Personally, I have my doubts that this new ReBoot will be able to recapture the unique, wacky charm of the original series, but you never know. As long as Mike the TV shows up, I’ll be happy…
