‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Declared The Year’s Best Film By International Federation Of Film Critics

We’ve referred to Mad Max: Fury Road as one of the rawest action films that may become your favorite movie 10 years from now, and the film has been received so well that Tom Hardy apologized to director George Miller for ever doubting him. Now even more praise is coming on this lovely day. Mad Max: Fury Road has been named the best film of the year by the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI).

How are they declaring the movie of the year when 2015 isn’t over yet? We’d like to say, “It’s just that good,” but the truth is that FIPRESCI uses the fiscal year, not the calendar year, so everything premiering between July 1 of last year and July 1 of this year was in the running to receive the FIPRESCI Grand Prix.

Fury Road beat out three other critically-acclaimed finalists for this year’s title: Son of Saul (directed by Laszlo Nemes), The Assassin (Hou Hsiao-Hsien), and Taxi (Jafar Panahi).

Director George Miller responded to the news, “You could have knocked me over with a feather! It’s lovely to have this great cohort of critics acknowledge our collective labors in this way.”

Miller will be presented his FIPRESCI Grand Prix at the San Sebastian Film Festival later this month. We hope it’s shiny and chrome.
