Marvel Has Plans If They Ever Get The X-Men Movie Rights Back

Let’s just get this out of the way: Fox will cling to its Marvel properties until the studio dies or the sun implodes into a black hole, whichever comes first. But if suddenly it’s revealed that 20th Century Fox is secretly a cocaine-smuggling operation or something, Marvel has plans for the movie rights it will get back.

Kevin Feige is understandably a little cagey about what Marvel may or may not do with the characters it will probably never receive. But he did own up to the fact that Marvel had plans:

Are we going to be able to make another movie with this actor? If we are, then we’ll do this. If not, we’re going to do this. If we get the rights to a certain character, that’d be great, then we’d do this. If not, we’d do this. So, we always sort of operate with those alternate timelines available and are ready to shift if something happens.

And now, of course, we really want to see those “alternate timelines.” But in a way, this is for the best. If Marvel had the X-Men, we probably never would have seen Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool would be lucky he ever got even a video game, and Jessica Jones and Luke Cage would probably just have cameos at the end of X-Men VIII: The X-ening. Although we would have been spared X-Men Origins: Wolverine, depending on timing, so that is an undeniable plus.
