Marvel Is Launching ‘A-Force,’ An All-Female Version Of The Avengers

Tired of all those dumb boy superheroes stinking up The Avengers? Well good news, the team will be getting a major, all-female makeover as part of Marvel’s upcoming mega-crossover, Secret Wars. The team will also be given a slightly questionable new name – A-Force. I don’t know what that A stands for, but I’m not sure I want to see forcing of any kind happening around it.

A-Force will be written by G. Willow Wilson, the woman behind the well-received Kamala Khan version of Ms. Marvel, and Marguerite Bennett. The book will be penciled by former X-Men artist, Jorge Molina.

Apparently She-Hulk, Medusa, Nico Minoru and Dazzler will be the core of the team, but there will be many more members aside from just them. Here’s a full group shot – special brownie points to the commenter who can name them all.

Wilson had this to say about the make-up of the team…

“We’ve purposefully assembled a team composed of very different characters — from disparate parts of the Marvel U, with very different power sets, identities and ideologies. They’ll all have to come together to answer some big questions: What would you sacrifice to succeed? What is being a hero worth?”

While Marvel has done plenty of all-lady superteams before, this is the first time they’ve done an all-female Avengers. You can’t help but feel like maybe this is Marvel comics sending a message to those who are reluctant to put more female heroes in the Avengers movies. Anyways, what do you folks think of A-Force? Looking forward to the new team, or does it feel a little, ahem, forced?
