The future of Leslie Jones, one of the four new Ghostbusters, on Twitter is up in the air after a series of racist comments were directed toward her on the social media site.
The actress, who is also a Saturday Night Live regular, was inundated with slurs and related vile comments on her Twitter page over the last 24 hours. Rather than ignoring them, she made screen captures and posted them on her timeline, and according to her site, reported the writers to Twitter.
While we won”t revisit what was said from the offenders, Jones” comments seem to say it all. She wrote, “I leave Twitter tonight with tears and a very sad heart. All this cause I did a movie. You can hate the movie but the s–t I got today… wrong.”
She also added, “I don't know how to feel. I'm numb. Actually numb. I see the words and pics and videos. Videos y'all. Meaning people took time to sprew [sic] hate…”
Jones even reached out to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey for assistance. Whether that will be of any value, that”s to be determined.
Jones' rep had no comment.
It's not clear whether Jones plans to leave Twitter for good, but this is not the first time she has expressed upset over comments she received. In March 2016, after viewers of the Ghostbusters trailer were vocal in their disapproval, she wrote, “I think today will be the day I get rid of Twitter. Gonna really be thinking on it. Not sure I want to need it anymore. Know what I mean?”
