Hawkeye debuts new duds and a little friend for ‘Captain America: Civil War’

Okay, damn it… Hawkeye better shoot an arrow that's got Ant-Man riding along at some point in “Captain America: Civil War,” or I'm suing someone for getting my hopes up.

In a very low-res image that he posted via Twitter this morning, Jeremy Renner revealed his new Hawkeye outfit, and the publicity still reveals a new friendship in the Marvel universe that could pay some hilarious on-screen dividends. I mean, just being able to write that opening sentence makes me so happy on a basic fundamental lifelong fan level that it's almost silly. We live in a world where we've gotten far enough down the road with these movies and these characters that we can have these kinds of crossovers and it's not the entire point of the movie… it's just a fun part of the overall story they're telling.

Here's the Tweet that set tongues wagging:

Based on some of the things I've heard, Ant-Man could well steal every scene he's in for “Civil War,” and this looks like an irresistible combination of characters. Renner may have irritated some fans on the press tour for “Avengers: Age Of Ultron,” and he had a way of doubling down on the original inflammatory comments that only made it worse. But I think he's been an inspired choice for the character, and the more often he gets to play it, the more fun it becomes. Part of what worked in “Ultron” was seeing how they developed his relationship with Natasha, and if he's going to have a new relationship this time with Scott Lang, it could be a blast. Paul Rudd is one of the best guys in town to have as a scene partner, and I've seen actors crank up their own game when they're playing scenes with him.

All I know is there were plenty of new arrows developed by Stark for “Age Of Ultron,” and seeing one of those used against him, with Ant-Man along for the ride, could be an easy highlight for “Civil War.”

“Captain America: Civil War” is in theaters May 25, 2016.
