Exclusive Premiere: Korn’s wild commentary on three new songs from ‘Paradigm Shift’

Hours out from the release of Korn’s new album “The Paradigm Shift,” and HitFix has three exclusive clips of the heavy rock band dishing out commentary on three of their new songs.

Start with blistering “Mass Hysteria,” which Brian “Head” Welch said started with him chug-chugging with his voice into an iPhone. Drummer Ray Luzier said he only needed two takes to nail his part, while frontman Jonathan Davis went as “straight metal as I could possibly go” in the studio. “You know I love my Dio.”

For the provocatively titled “Paranoid and Aroused,” the band uses terms like “outer space” and “driving” to describe its sound, though Davis revealed “sh*t that was just popping in my head was scaring me.” The title’s about raves, which may explain even more.

“It’s All Wrong” contains some of the most epic, Korn-y lyrics like, “How many times a day / must I die / Nothing’s gonna work today / I’m killing time,” and what Welch said is one of the “fastest grooves on the whole record.” Reggie “Fieldy” Arvizustatic compared it to the static on TV, and a channel you can’t change.

Watch all of the videos for more notes from the band and to sample the tunes from off of “The Paradigm Shift,” which is the album that marks the return of co-founding guitarist Brian “Head” Welch since 2003, and the rockers’ first set since 2011’s metal-dubstep experiment “The Path of Totality.” The band is on rock charts currently with sing “Never Never,” which you can also check out below.
