Melissa McCarthy experiences ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ in new ‘Tammy’ teaser

Do you know who is the most excited about the new teaser trailer for “Tammy”?  No, it's not the growing legion of Melissa McCarthy fans. No, it's not Warner Bros. who is hopeful they have a major mid-summer hit on their hands. It's Artis Leon Ivey Jr., better known as Coolio, because the former hip-hop artist just scored bank.

There's nothing like a residual check after your 19-year-old hit gets significant play in a major movie trailer and that's what Coolio will get thanks to the use of “Gangasta's Paradise” in the new “Tammy” teaser. Judging by the extended scene it looks like the track actually might get used in the movie itself which just means mo' money, mo' money, mo' money. (For those who are too young to remember, “Paradise” is a former no. 1 single that became a hit after it was featured in the Michelle Pfeiffer drama “Dangerous Minds.”)

As for the teaser itself, moviegoers will be introduced to McCarthy's latest creation who barely pulls off robbing a fast food burger joint.  She also may be on something or inhibited, but it's classic McCarthy and if your'e a fan of “The Heat” star you'll be counting the days until “Tammy” hits theaters.

Directed by McCarthy's husband Ben Falcone and based on a screenplay by the couple, “Tammy” is actually a road movie that finds Tammy crossing half the country with her likely alcoholic grandmother played by Susan Sarandon. Many thought the film might veer into more dramedy territory, but this teaser is a huge statement that we're getting another McCarthy comedy.  And considering her last three starring roles have grossed over $130 million, the competition should watch out.

“Tammy” opens nationwide on July 2.
