NBC still has “Big” plans for Ellen DeGeneres.

One day after dumping DeGeneres' struggling freshman comedy “One Big Happy,” NBC has ordered eight episodes of the comedy/variety show “Little Big Shots” from DeGeneres and Steve Harvey.

The hour-long showcase will be hosted by Harvey and will feature “the world's most talented and extraordinary kids.”

The press release mentions “pint-sized breakdancers” and “5-year-old piano virtuosos” and says that these exceptional children will performance and also go head-to-head with Harvey in conversations and interviews.

The release also adds “These phenomenal kids show us once and for all that talent is born, not made,” which may just be an effort to make Malcolm Gladwell's head explode.

In addition to DeGeneres and Harvey, “Little Big Shots” will be executive produced by Jeff Kleeman and Gerald Washington for Warner Horizon Television, East 112th Street Productions and A Very Good Production.

While we won't know for sure until NBC announced its schedule on Sunday, but the network seems poised to make a big push into the comedy/variety format, depending on how it chooses to play things. In addition to “Little Big Shots,” NBC has “Best Time Ever with Neil Patric Harris” and, reportedly, the possibility of revisiting plans for a live show with Maya Rudolph.

We'll see tomorrow.
