While working on “Star Wars: Episode VII,” “Star Trek Into Darkness” director J.J. Abrams won’t be calling the shots on “Star Trek 3,” but series co-star Simon Pegg is confident that Abrams will still leave his mark on the threequel.
At the DVD-Blu-ray release party for “Darkness,” Pegg told HItFix about the pros and cons of having so many action scenes in the sequel, reveled in some hilarious metric conversion humor (sorry, “humor”) and addressed Abrams’ role in the planned third film, which as of now doesn’t have a director.
“J.J. will still be every much involved,” Pegg says. “His stamp will still be on it. It’ll be interesting to see whoever directs it what they bring to it as well. It’ll be another evolution I think.”
Pegg feigns ignorance when asked about the possibility of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” director Rupert Wyatt taking over the reins, an idea which Abrams seems to favor.
However, “The World’s End” actor is also savvy enough to know that any mention he makes can be turned into wild Internet speculation.
“I pointed at a picture of Ant-Man and got in big trouble,” he recalls.
“Star Trek Into Darkness,” which also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch and Zoe Saldana, is now available on DVD and Blu-ray.
