The Emmys will air on a Monday in August this year
The TV Academy gave no reason why the Primetime Emmys are moving to Monday, Aug. 25 this year. The last time the Emmys aired on a Monday was in 1976. NBC usually airs the Primetime Emmys in August due to “Sunday Night Football,” but it’s always been previously broadcast on a Sunday in August. The move to Monday means the red carpet broadcast will be shown while people are working on the West Coast, and the ceremony will begin just as West Coasters are getting off work. UPDATE: NBC wants to avoid conflict with a “Sunday Night Football” preseason game.
