Batman V. Superman may have had a lot of faults, but you can’t argue it didn’t dig deep into DC’s comics history. References to DC’s past abound in the movie, from visible ones like Robin’s suit to more subtle ones only hardcore fans would even recognize. And, it turns out, some of them are hiding even in a pane of broken glass.
A fan spotted an odd breakage pattern in a window during a key scene of the movie and thought it looked a lot like Ontario:

Which would seem like a bit of a reach, but it turns out, it isn’t. Clay Enos, the on-set photographer for Batman V. Superman, confirmed that it’s legit:

It’s not a surprise that a movie this detail oriented would work in such an obscure gag, and Superman shows are notable for their in-jokes; Supergirl, for example, hid a nod to longtime Superman artist Al Plastino in the name of a chemical factory. But it does leave open the question of what else might be hiding in the movie. Even Lex Luthor’s prisoner number is some form of a gag, although it changed from the director’s cut to the theatrical one, oddly enough. All of which leaves open, of course, what else Snyder might be hiding in Justice League, but we’ll find that out next year.
