Don’t Expect To See ‘Deadpool’ Crossover With The ‘X-Men’ Films Any Time Soon

With the success of Deadpool, the rumor mill is running wild with comic book movies going R-Rated and every idea looking for a connection to Ryan Reynold’s star role. But luckily the folks behind the film don’t seem too willing to crash the money train just yet. Patience is the key, with planning coming slowly behind.

Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick sat down with Rodrigo Perez over at The Playlist and gave a bit of the skinny on what we can expect to see in a Deadpool sequel and the possibility of a crossover with the X-Men series of films. For Reese and Wernick, the Marvel strategy with Iron Man ahead of The Avengers is ideal for Deadpool and any potential team up film. But that’s not the only reason:

“The second issue at hand is the ‘X-Men’ universe timeline. ‘The X-Men’ series is currently set in the 1980s, ‘Deadpool,’ is set three decades later in our present day…

“It’s a timeline that will eventually catch up I would imagine,” Wernick said. “But [‘X-Men’ producer] Simon [Kingberg’s] more the keeper of that universe and maybe we’ll see more X-Men playing in Deadpool’s sandbox and probably Deadpool playing in their sandbox at some point.”

This is likely the best news a Deadpool fan could hope for — even if his presence in this Old Man Logan story would be welcome — and knowing other characters like Colossus could show is an added bonus. They also confirmed that Cable is definitely in the cards for the next film, along with rumors that Domino might be coming too.

“Yeah, we’re on that path,” Wernick said about including Cable in the sequel. “We teased him in the coda, we’re sticking to those plans and are having a great time writing.”

It’s all leading toward X-Force, which honestly sounds like an interesting film at this point. If you told me before Deadpool that X-Force would sound like the best idea for the X-films at this point, I would’ve called you mad. Now it makes perfect sense.
