All The Easter Eggs And References Stuffed Into The ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’ Teaser Trailer

As Mr. Sunday Movies points out, creating his typical Easter egg and reference videos is not exactly an easy job when it comes to the next Guardians of the Galaxy film. James Gunn has pointed out this exact thing online in the past and he’s shared his concerns over people who manage to spoil movies in trailers, something he wants to avoid with Starlord’s next adventure. So with the trailer release on Saturday, you can be assured that most of what we see comes from the earlier, non-spoilery parts of the film. It begins a few months after the first film and now the team is well known, taking jobs across the galaxy and growing as a group.

We got to see a bunch of Baby Groot in the new trailer and he’s looking like the best part of the film yet again despite the very depressing news related to the character and his original form. There’s also the introduction for Mantis, who looks a lot better on screen than in the comics with green skin and some antennae. She’s far more visually interesting in the trailer and she’s also one of the few new bits we saw.

The inter-dimensional beast is apparently a small, unconfirmed connection to Doctor Strange. There’s certainly no shortage of tentacled beasts in the Strange comics, so this is very possible. Keeping everything connected is still that nice little treat for people, even if the movie is meant to stand on its own.

And since it’s Guardians, the soundtrack is a big part. The Sweet played a big part in the trailer as “Fox On The Run” provided the background to the mayhem on screen. Some other songs have been announced for the possible soundtrack, including “The Chain” from Fleetwood Mac and “Come A Little Bit Closer” by Jay And The Americans. There’s also apparently a Bowie song in a scene from the film, bu that’s in question since the scene is apparently teetering on the edge of falling on the cutting room floor. James Gunn delivers up to this point, so he’ll find a way.
