Rodney Rothman is no rookie in the comedy world. He wrote Grudge Match and 22 Jump Street, so with his Hollywood success comes freedom — he now has the ability to make just about whatever he wants. Naturally, when someone is given free reign in Hollywood, they try out a passion project, so Rothman’s reviving an old project near and dear to his heart: a wacky sci-fi he wrote years ago called The Something. On top of his formidable comedy style, he’ll be directing and writing jokes for a cast of comedic superstars including Seth Rogen, Zach Galifianakis, and Bill Hader.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Bill Hader and Seth Rogen have worked together — they shared the screen in Knocked Up, Superbad and Pineapple Express — all
minor huge hits.
So, what is The Something? In an interview with Collider way back in 2010, Rothman described the movie as follows:
“It’s the first time they’ve seen women in five years, and then sh*t just goes crazy.”
Extrapolating on that, the log line is basically: a crew of astronauts are floating around space for years, then they happen upon another ship (this is where the women come on). You can expect laughs, some inappropriate jokes, and a heartwarming third act in a theater relatively soon.
