Finally, Disney head-honcho Bob Iger has spilled some sweet info about the Han Solo origin spinoff at the Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference. Like a smuggler who drops their shipments at the first sign of an Imperial cruiser, goods were dropped, baby. Goods being information, any information about the 2018 Han Solo tale that has yet to cast Han. We now know with 100% certainty that a relatively young Chewbacca will be in the movie.
Beyond that reveal, his Star Wars comments were pretty straightforward and didn’t tell us anything we didn’t already know. He discussed Rogue One, its placement in the Star Wars timeline, and when the Han Solo/Chewy movie will be coming:
“‘Rogue One’ … is about a band of rebels plotting to steal the plans to the Death Star,” the Disney boss said. “It takes place right before what was George Lucas‘s first film, which came out in 1977 and is now called ‘A New Hope.’
We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewy, and that’ll come after ‘Star Wars 8’ in 2018. And then there’ll be possibly be more thereafter.”
