OK, maybe Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained won’t exactly make for a funky Christmas (dead-white-man Christmas?), but including a mash-up of “Untouchable” by 2Pac with James Brown’s “The Payback” on the film’s soundtrack is a step in the right direction.
The aptly titled “Unchained,” which was put together by 2Pac’s engineer Claudio Cueni, isn’t the first time the two artists have been connected, according to Spin: “The entire beat of 2Pac’s first big hit [“I Get Around” from 1993’s Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z.] was built out of sampled drum noises from Brown records.” Meanwhile, 2012’s other big Christmas movie, Les Misérables, includes a Biggie Smalls remix of “The Confrontation.”
Even in death, you can’t keep those crazy kids apart. Check out “Unchained” below.
