Bassem Youssef is a political satirist and commentator probably best known for being “the Egyptian Jon Stewart.” Youssef, a surgeon who’s trained in cardiac and lung transplantation, was famously exiled from Egypt in 2011 during the Arab Spring because his show Al Bernameg did not set well with the country’s power circle. Currently, Youssef has a new 10 episode web series and one hour special on the Fusion network called The Democracy Handbook with Bassem Youssef, which airs Sunday, July 17 at 9 p.m. EST.
