Did Ronda Rousey Hint At When She’ll Retire In This Podcast With Joe Rogan?

Fans of Ronda Rousey are in for a big treat as the UFC women’s champion was on the Joe Rogan podcast Monday to have a fun two-hour talk about everything and nothing. The whole thing flows like a casual conversation between stoner friends, which makes sense considering Joe admits the two “might have been medicated” during the last podcast and just may be again this time. At one point, Joe and Ronda get weepy talking about one of her victories — the sure sign you’re smoking the good sh*t.

There’s been a number of quotes from Ronda Rousey recently regarding her eventual retirement and departure from the sport, but they’re usually quick mentions during a press interview. Here she is really laying out her vision for the rest of her fighting career (as transcribed by MMA Junkie):

“I’m not going to be doing this in my 30s; I don’t want to be fighting in my 30s,” Rousey said. “By 30s, I mean like 31, 32. If you’re actually 30 years old that’s 30, not 30s. Once you add the one, that’s 30s, plural. I’m 28. I don’t know. I look at it exactly like how we were talking about fighting, that’s how I do everything else. I don’t look at these separate disjointed things. I’m not going to go in there and try this thing and try this thing and try that thing and hope something works out.”

She’s 28, and not just a little 28. Like 29 in February. That gives us just over two more years before her generous interpretation of 30s begins, and don’t forget she’s also going to be filming movies during that time as well and *gasp* may even take a vacation once in a while.

Meanwhile, don’t think she isn’t thinking about a fight with Cris Cyborg. It just has to happen on her terms, in her weight class. As far as Ronda’s concerned, if Cyborg made 145 with steroids she should be able to make 135 without them.

“If she never steps up, I’ll know (why),” Rousey said. “I’ll probably go a little longer waiting for her, but you know, if she showed up sooner rather than later, I don’t know how much longer I would go after that.”

So long as we all agree this is a fight that has to happen.
