I haven't walked out of a movie since 1994, when Miracle on 34th Street offended me to my heartless, Jewish core. I've been tempted at times, of course, but the theater already had my money and it's so damn hot outside — if I'm going to suffer, might as well do it in a room with air conditioning, even if I have to sit through a slumming, sad Patton Oswalt. The closest I've ever come to yelling "F*CK THIS SH*T" and storming out was in 2010, when for an hour and forty minutes, The Last Airbender made me question everything I love about movies, TV, and life.
Nick's Avatar: The Last Airbender is a great show. It's smart, serialized, and gorgeously animated, with a voice cast that perfectly understood the well-formed characters they were portraying. The Last Airbender is none of those things, and every time writer/director M. Night Shyamalan is in the news, I'm reminded of that sad July 2010 day, when I sat through that racist, confusing cinematic shart. (The How Did This Get Made? team has an epic take.)
Unfortunately, M. Night is in the news a lot this week, for his latest abomination, After Earth, so to distract myself from my Jackson Rathbone-related misery, I rounded up some of the best anti-Airbender images on the Internet. It really is the worst TV-to-movie adaptation of all-time (Wild Wild West is also terrible, but the series wasn't so great, either; plus, at least it had a giant mechanical spider), and I'm glad I'm no the only one who thinks so.
