Hillary Clinton Will Play A Major Role In The Next Season Of ‘The Good Wife.’ Kind Of!

Hillary Clinton is coming to The Good Wife. I mean, kind of. But not really. Let’s start over.

According to Good Wife executive producer Robert King, the upcoming seventh season of the show will depict Peter Florrick — estranged husband of main character Alicia Florrick, once-jailed former Spitzer-esque aficionado of high-end prostitutes, current governor of Illinois — (lot going on in The Good Wife) — running for the Democratic presidential nomination against Hillary Clinton. And they’ll even be trying to match the show’s timeline with real life, running episodes about various primaries the week they actually occur. Is it gonna get weird? Probably!

From an interview with TV Line:

“The difficult thing for us is we started writing these scripts in June, so you’re always kind of guessing where things are going,” King concedes. “And we’re stunned in politics how things change overnight. We’re not sure if Biden will enter the race at this point. We have the ability to ADR some lines in if that’s necessary, but we’re kind of playing the betting game at this point.”

This is tricky and ambitious and a little dangerous, because beyond the possibility of Biden entering the race or Trump doing something insane that throws the whole electoral process into disarray, like, what if something goes bonkers in the Clinton campaign? What if there’s a huge scandal that takes over the news cycle and CBS devotes an entire episode of 60 Minutes to it on a Sunday night, and that rolls right into a super normal Good Wife episode about Hillary winning a debate? It would be so weird. Please let this happen.
