This ‘Legend Of Zelda’ Orchestra Brings Their Classical Take On Hyrule To ‘The Late Show’

Growing up playing video games on the old NES, I never thought that the games could even look like the drawings in the box, let alone have music that sounded like actual instruments. Many years later, those expectations have grown quite a bit, and now orchestration in games is more and more a normal thing. Still, hearing the older 8-bit chiptunes replayed by instruments practically makes it feel like a new song or some sort of maturation of your childhood.

This is where The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses comes in to provide. The 74-piece orchestra tours the world replaying music from throughout the 28-year Zelda game series catalog. While doing a musical stop on The Late Show, the Symphony of the Goddesses played the expected highlights of Hyrule, as well as some music from the upcoming Nintendo 3DS game The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes.

If that’s a little bit too extravagant for you, then here’s a clip of Jon Batiste and Stay Human playing the original game’s “Overworld Theme.” It’s no 74-piece orchestra, but it’s pretty delightful.
